Teenage "firefighters" train like the pros

If your house catches fire, a group of teenagers is probably not on your list of people to call...that is unless they are "explorers."

The Milwaukee Fire Department Explorers program was started for teens wanting to train like the pros. It's for anyone ages 14-20. The Explorers usually meet the first Saturday of each month at a fire training academy and go through many of the same drills that real firefighters practice with.

The program says many of it's Explorers have gone on to pursue a full time job as a firefighter with some of the training already in hand.

Program leader Lt. Jeff Gauthier says, "Mom and dads, aunts and uncles, grandmas granpas, are always happy too because the kids I promise you always come home tired."
