Missing man’s body, vehicle pulled from Lake Geneva
WALWORTH COUNTY — The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department says a vehicle under water and a body recovered from Lake Geneva Thursday afternoon is that of a man reported missing Wednesday. Sheriff’s officials say 76-year-old Richard Coogan left his home on Territorial Road in Sugar Creek Township Wednesday in his 2003 white Cadillac Seville headed for the City of Delevan, but never arrived.
Thursday just after noon, Linn Township police and Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the water at the end of the Robinson Hillside boat launch on the south side of Lake Geneva off of East Beach Road. Officials say the vehicle was approximately 50 feet offshore, completely under water.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., officials recovered Coogan’s body from the water, and the Walworth County Coroner pronounced Coogan dead at the scene. Officials say an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, and the case remains under investigation.
