Ramp from EB I-894 to NB I-94/43 to open on Thursday

MILWAUKEE -- The ramp from eastbound I-894 to northbound I-94/43 in Milwaukee's Mitchell Interchange is scheduled to open Thursday. That's great news for commuters who have been forced to drive city streets or enter the freeway system at other locations.

"If you look at the traffic volume on 27th street, we have 36,000 cars a day. 16,000 of those cars come off freeway ramps so this is a major opening for 27th street," said Milwaukee Alderman Terry Witkowski.

Initially, a single lane will be open on the ramp and through the tunnel. In late 2012, two lanes will open when construction is complete.

Motorists should note that the ramp to I-43/94 NB is a right-hand exit. I-43/894 EB traffic needs to be in the right lane prior to 27th Street to access the ramp towards downtown Milwaukee. This design significantly improves traffic flow and safety through the interchange.
