Police Officer Frank Vrtochnick up and walking around

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police says injured officer Frank Vrtochnick was up and walking around over the weekend. Vrtochnick was struck by a vehicle during patrols Christmas night, and the driver fled the scene

Officials say Vrtochnick's progress is slow, but he's improving every day.

Frank's parents, Frank and Aggie, are apparently overwhelmed with the support from Frank's fellow officers, public officials and, as they have coined them, "The friends we haven't met yet."
The man who is accused of striking Vrtochnick on Christmas night, Juan Alvarado, is charged with first degree reckless injury, and first degree recklessly endangering safety in connection with the Christmas night hit and run. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for January 18th.
