Two men save woman, dog after fire in West Allis

WEST ALLIS -- Two men came to the rescue of a woman and a dog during a fire in West Allis Tuesday morning.

The men were across the street when they noticed the fire at a home on South 55th Street and Burnham.

The fire was upstairs, and the men say they saw a woman hanging out the window. One man ran inside and saved a dog. The other man jumped up to a balcony, broke the door open, and got the woman to the balcony.

"Totally smoke - couldn't see anything! All I saw when I got the door open was I saw her, and grabbed her arm, and got her on the porch," Jeff Palomaki said.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. There is no word on what caused the fire, or the extent of the damage.
