Wave finish regular season with 21-6 loss to Comets

MILWAUKEE -- Although the Milwaukee Wave ended their regular season with a loss in Missouri, the tallied up an impressive 18-6 record claiming the Central Division Championships. The Milwaukee Wave lost 21-6 to the Comets as Bryon Alvarez scored six goals and a MISL-season high 13 points.

Milwaukee scored the first two goals of the match to jump out to a 4-0 lead on shots from Giuliano Oliveiro and Jonathan Greenfield midway through the first quarter.  The Comets battled back to tie late in the period with two power play goals from Alvarez. The Comets scored the only goal of the second quarter as Stefan Stokic got his third of the year giving them a 6-4 lead going into the half.

The Comets came out of the locker room on fire, scoring three goals in the first five minutes. Geison to Alvarez accounted for two more power play goals in the scoring burst, sandwiched around a Geison goal of his own. Milwaukee finally stopped the 12-0 scoring run with Oliveiro’s second goal of the day but the Comets ensured there would be no rally Sunday by scoring the final nine points to win going away.  Neto answered the Milwaukee goal four minutes later on a feed from Bato.  Neto added a second goal early in the fourth quarter and now has 17 for the year. Alvarez also scored two goals down the stretch, including a three-pointer that was intended as a crossing pass but deflected off a Wave player into the net.  A rebound off a hard Brian Harris shot was an easy finish for Alvarez eight minutes into the quarter to close the scoring.

The Central Division Finals will also match-up Milwaukee and the Comets. The Comets will host Game 1 of the series at the Independence Events Center Friday, March 9 at 7:35pm. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 in Milwaukee.  If necessary, a 15-minute mini-game would immediately follow Game 2 to decide the representative in the MISL Championship Series.
