Teen parents who abandoned baby now have custody of child

LETON, Wis. (AP) -- The teen parents who abandoned their newborn daughter behind a church in Kimberly last year now have custody of the child.

Ben LaMarche and Nadia Zahirudin, both 18, have been placed on probation for leaving the infant behind the Fox Valley Christian Fellowship Church last May.

The baby was discovered by a passer-by, was treated at the hospital and turned over to Outagamie Child Protective Services. Attorneys would not disclose when the couple was granted custody.

Letters supporting the couple as parents were sent to the judge who sentenced LaMarche this week.
