Milwaukee firefighters battle fire at Miller Compressing

MILWAUKEE -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at the Miller Compressing Company near 16th and Bruce St. in Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley Friday, April 6th.

Officials say the fire began around 5:35 p.m., possibly in one of the piles of scrap metal. Investigators will now look through piles of scrap metal to see if they can discover what may have caused the fire.

Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles. Thousands of fans leaving the Milwaukee BrewersOpening Day game at Miller Park came out of the ballpark and found themselves walking to their cars through smoke from the scene, 30 blocks away. The smell from the fire was rank.

The fire burned for about four hours. Firefighters say there are no reports of injuries.
