Charges filed against man accused of pointing gun at sergeant

MILWAUKEE -- Charges have been filed against a man accused of pointing a gun at a Milwaukee police sergeant. That sergeant shot and wounded the suspect.

27-year-old Sean Effinger is charged with two counts of felony endangering safety by use of a weapon, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering safety with a weapon.

According to the criminal complaint in the case, Effinger refused police orders to drop a gun near 39th and Pierce last Sunday, April 1st. That's when the sergeant shot him.

Effinger was treated at Froedtert Hospital and was released into police custody. No officers nor citizens were injured in the incident.

The sergeant is 55 years old and has 30 years of service on the Milwaukee Police Department. He is assigned to District 2. He is on administrative duty, which is standard procedure, until the Milwaukee County District Attorney reviews the incident.

Effinger will be back in court April 17th.
