Prisoners of War Remembrance Day in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE -- An important observance day falls on Monday, April 9. April 9 is Prisoners of War Remembrance Day in Wisconsin. The remembrance day was created to honor prisoners of war (POW), especially the 12,000 U.S. troops captured in the Philippines during World War II.

The prisoners of war captured in the Philippines were forced to walk 70 miles through the jungle known as the Bataan Death March. Many prisoners of war died or were executed along the way. That was in 1942, 70 years ago today.
