Franklin police investigating threatening stickers placed on mailboxes

FRANKLIN -- Franklin police are investigating threatening stickers with a picture of Trayvon Martin on them. Martin is the teenager shot and killed in Florida by a neighborhood watch man.

Franklin police say someone put the stickers on mailboxes near Saint Martin's Road, and Scepter Circle on April 2nd and 3rd.

One of the stickers has a picture of Martin, and the word "Revenge" on it. The other says "Kill Whitey."

Gary Bredeson said he found one of the stickers when he came home from work and checked his mail. Bredeson snapped a picture of the sticker before taking it down and calling police."Hard to determine what the motive is. Is it kids trying to stir up trouble? Maybe. It's hard to imagine it's a concerted effort on the part of some adults," Bredeson said.

A Franklin police captain said three mailboxes were hit.

Bredeson said from what he knows about the Treyvon Martin shooting, he understands the frustration out there, but wonders why his home was a target. "I'm sure there's a lot of people angry about it, and I'm sure the stickers are a testament to that. However, we didn't have anything to do with that," Bredeson said.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
