Habitat for Humanity hosting ReStore Recycling Drive Sunday

WAUWATOSA -- If you're looking to get rid of some of those unwanted items in your house, you have the perfect opportunity this weekend -- and you can help those in need in the process! Habitat for Humanity is hosting its ReStore Recycling Drive on Sunday, April 22nd to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity officials say they are looking for things like TVs, VCRs and stereos. "We'll have a ton of volunteers to help unload your donation. You should be in and out in a matter of a couple of minutes. We're also looking for items like clothing, shoes. Whether it's gently used or in a little bit worse condition," ReStore manager Jake Brandt said.

The Habit for Humanity's ReStore is always looking for donations. "The Restore really is Earth Day 365 days a year because we're recycling and re-purposing items that people no longer need or want," Melissa Herguth with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity said.

All of the money generated from the ReStore and Recycling Drive is then put right back into the community, while avoiding extra waste in the landfill. "We are building 27 homes this year, and that's a lot of families to serve and any way that we can raise additional funds to help with that is really important," Herguth said.

Habitat for Humanity officials say they are feeling confident about Sunday's recycling drive after last years success. "We filled up 12 semi truck loads full of electronics and raised over $10,000 or Habitat for Humanity in a matter of five hours," Brandt said.

The Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore Recycling Drive will be held Sunday, April 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Macy's northeast parking lot at Mayfair Mall.

All of those who donate will receive a tax-deductible receipt and saving incentives from Mayfair retailers.
