Vigil held to remember six-year-old Christopher Wade

MILWAUKEE -- He lost his life while crossing the street in Milwaukee. Now, the family of six-year-old Christopher Wade says his organs have been donated to help save the lives of seven other children.

Wade was crossing the street near 51st and Meinecke on Tuesday, April 17th when a mini-van struck him. Wade suffered critical head injuries and died two days later.

Friday evening, April 20th, family and friends gathered at the corner where the accident took place and held a quiet vigil. They used the time to remember Wade, a child they say had a bubbly personality and amazing creativity.

"One time his power wheel went out, so he took the wheels off of our city garbage can and put new wheels on his power wheel to make it work," Brandy Chambers, Christopher's aunt said.

A memorial remains at the location of the accident. The family says they are grateful for all the support they've received from the community.
