Barrett, Falk meet with supporters, focus on money Tuesday night

MILWAUKEE — Tom Barrett and Kathleen Falk, the Democratic front runners in the gubernatorial recall election against Gov. Scott Walker were in Milwaukee Tuesday night, May 1st – just one week before voters take to the polls in the recall primary election.

Their focus Tuesday night was money amassed by Walker, the man they’re trying to unseat.

“It takes the whole coalition who have been part of this movement the last few months to beat a guy who’s got $25 million,” Falk said.

“If you go through his report and see somewhere between two-thirds and three-fourths of his money comes from out-of-state. That speaks volumes as to where his support really comes from,” Barrett said.

What is taking shape as the recall primary nears are two very different campaigns. Falk got in the race early and drew union endorsements. Falk met with supporters outside “Coffee Makes You Black” on Milwaukee’s north side Tuesday night.

“It’s full steam ahead, but we’re not afraid of hard work. It will take hard work to get the state back on track. We’ve got the coalition that can beat Scott Walker,” Falk said.

Barrett spent his evening greeting hundreds of supporters, including Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele on the second floor of the Milwaukee Public Market. The front runner already has his sights set on Walker.

“There’s no question that if this is about money, I’m going to lose.  There’s just no question about that.  I don’t think that’s what this is about.  I can’t find anybody in this state who thinks it’s a good idea that 70 percent of his campaign dollars are coming from out of this state,” Barrett said.
