CAUGHT ON CAM: Burglars hit West Allis sporting goods store

WEST ALLIS -- West Allis police are looking for your help in identifying a couple of burglary suspects who hit the Dunham's Sporting Goods store just north of Highway 100 and Cleveland Ave Thursday, May 3rd.

The suspects smashed through the front door just before 3:30 a.m. and immediately went to the area of the store where the guns are located. They smashed a gun display case and removed various shotguns from the store.

"Anytime an item like this, specifically a gun, but also a long gun or shotgun such as the ones that were taken, that always poses a significant danger, because clearly they're in the hands of criminals," West Allis Police Captain Christopher Botsch said.

The suspects drove off from the store in a dark-colored van. "We're trying to work with experts in the area to determine specifically what year, make and model that it might be," Botsch said.

About 17 minutes after the initial break in, police entered the store with their guns drawn and realized the shotguns had been stolen. "Our concern is always that the guns that were taken in this incident could potentially be used for some other illegal activity," Botsch said.

Police say they do have additional video footage that they are reviewing.

Police say the suspects were all wearing black clothing, hats, gloves and sunglasses.
