Police searching for West Bend bank robber

WEST BEND — Just before noon on Saturday, May 5th, a man gave a bank teller at the PNC Bank on Washington Street in West Bend a note saying that he had a gun. He then robbed the bank and took an undisclosed amount of money, getting away on foot.

West Bend police and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, who were on the scene quickly, thought the man was in a nearby business.

Jon Zylka works at Full Service Car Wash next to the bank. “I just seen a bunch of guns and a bunch of cops,” Zylka said. “I swear every cop in town was here.

“I was wiping down cars in the back, and police car rolled up, and then we seen him standing by the fence over there. Then another one rolled up, pulled out a gun and I went outside,” Jacob Tuzzolino, who also works at the car wash said. “Then the manager came down and said we’re not allowed to leave the building, so I looked out through the window. I didn’t know what was going on.”

Police were checking the bank, a nearby Perkins Restaurant and the car wash for the man.

“They eventually cleared out Perkins. He wasn’t in there. Then they ended up having all of us stay out of the building here. Then they swept this building and cleared it out. No one was here either,” Alexander Nell, a car wash employee said.

Officials describe the suspect as a while male in his late 20s to 3arly 30s, approximately 5’10” to 6′ tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds. They say the man was unshaven, wearing an olive green baseball cap, a grey long-sleeved shirt with blue lettering on the front, black pants and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information into this incident or the whereabouts of the suspect should contact the West Bend Police Department at (262) 335-5000.
