Little League kicks off baseball season in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE — The Brewers Community Foundation pitched in to help support the Beckum-Stapleton Little League and Saturday, May 5th the youth baseball organization kicked off its season.

The Little League season began with a parade held in Milwaukee, marking the 48th season of the Beckum-Stapleton Little League. The famous racing sausages that Brewers fans get to see joined the children. Milwaukee Brewers player, Rickie Weeks, made a donation to get a new scoreboard put up at Carver Park, where the children play baseball.

The Beckum-Stapleton Little League has a long-standing history.  “You can start with Willie Hines of the Common Council, Alderman Joe Davis, on and on and on. Many business leaders, doctors, attorneys – people from all walks of life who are leaders in this community have come through Beckum-Stapleton Little League,” Earl Ingram, who attended the parade, said.

James Beckum founded the league in 1964, and it’s still going strong.  In addition to baseball, it also provides mentoring programs to teach life skills.  The organization says it will continue its tradition of making a positive impact in childrens’ lives.

There are 22 teams in the Beckum-Stapleton Little League.
