Sheboygan to consider tougher food-truck ordinance

SHEBOYGAN (AP) -- The Sheboygan Common Council plans to consider an ordinance that would make it harder for mobile food trucks to serve festivals and other events.

The ordinance would prohibit vendors from parking with 500 feet of a fair, farmers' market or carnival without a special permit.

They'd also have to shut down at 2:30 a.m. on weekends, and their fees would rise from $100 to $500.

Alderwoman Jodi Vander Weele chairs the city's Law and Licensing Committee. She says the ordinance was drafted because of concerns from event organizers, restaurant owners and police.

Greg Lee owns food truck Gyros 2 Go. He says his biggest objection would be shutting down at 2:30 a.m. He says that's when business really picks up.

The Common Council meets Monday evening, May 7th.
