Election officials prep for recall primary Tuesday

BROWN DEER -- Election officials spent Monday, May 7th getting ready for Tuesday's recall primary election.

In Brookfield, the phones were ringing all day Monday, and elections officials answered questions about absentee voting. Absentee voting is allowed two weeks prior to the election, and always ends the Friday before the election. Absentee voting ended Friday, May 4th.

Callers also had questions about where to go to cast their ballot Tuesday.

Meanwhile, officials were making sure all the supplies were on hand - everything from poll books and other items, to absentee ballots, in alphabetical order. "It's not something that happens often to have a recall primary and recall election so it's something that was sort of unplanned, but we saw it coming," Brookfield City Clerk Kelly Michaels said.

Poll workers also took part in training to make sure they are ready for the day.  "If you think about election workers, they only work four, maybe six times a year, but most of the time it's four times a year and it's like any job, you need to have proper training and reminders of what you need to do," Michaels said.

In Milwaukee County, elections officials also made preparations ahead of Tuesday's election day. "We've been very, very busy getting ready. We're getting some calls from our poll workers who will not be able to work tomorrow, so we're filling those positions," Sue Edman with the City of Milwaukee Election Commission said.

The polls open Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.
