Ninneman headed to trial for allegedly driving wrong way on Lake Parkway

MILWAUKEE -- Megan Ninneman, the Shorewood woman facing four criminal charges for allegedly driving drunk and driving the wrong way on the Lake Parkway, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday, May 22nd. She is now bound over for trial.

Ninneman faces charges including second-degree recklessly endangering safety, duty upon striking an occupied vehicle and operating while intoxicated.

The charges stem from an incident that happened just after 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd. A driver called 911 to report a car was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-794.

The criminal complaint says Department of Transportation cameras tracked the car driven by Ninneman south on I-794 all the way to Edgerton Ave. At that point, a St. Francis police officer pulled Ninneman over.

A Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy joined the traffic stop. According to the criminal complaint, the deputy smelled “a strong odor of alcohol” coming from Ninneman’s breath. She also had a blank stare on her face and slurred speech.

The complaint indicates Ninneman stated “she knew she had been driving on the wrong side of the wrong and she knew that she had hit someone earlier and did not stop.” Ninneman apparently told the deputy she had three to four drinks earlier in the evening.

Ninneman failed a field sobriety test. She also did a breath test and it was determined her blood alcohol concentration was .18 — or more than double the legal limit for driving.

If convicted on the charges, Ninneman faces up to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

Ninneman will be back in court in June.
