Ducklings rescued by MPD officer released into wild

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Humane Society's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Wednesday, May 23rd, released seven ducklings back into the wild. The ducklings were rescued by a Milwaukee police officer in April after their mother was killed while crossing a busy street.

In April, the orphaned ducklings were found in a busy intersection, and one of the ducklings had fallen down a sewer.

An officer from the Milwaukee Police Department was driving by, and was flagged down by a citizen. The officer rescued the baby duckling from the sewer, and the Wisconsin Humane Society`s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center dispatched a volunteer to pick the babies up.

The ducklings spent the last few weeks growing up at the Wildlife Center, along with other orphaned babies.

Wildlife manager Scott Diehl reports that the ducklings are now big and strong enough to fly and survive on their own.

The Wildlife Center has named the ducklings after Snow White's "Seven Dwarfs" -- Happy, Dopey, Grumpy, Doc, Sneezy, Bashful and Sleepy!

The ducklings were released at a park in Greenfield.
