Better Bike Gets You In Shape

Thousands of people across the country are getting fit using a gadget that's a cross between a bike and a tricycle. It's  three wheeled machine called the Trikke.

It's powered by moving your body back and forth and can burn up to 600 calories in an hour. But the tricky part, is riding the Trikke right.

In just six months, Danielle Adams lost 60 pounds thanks to this unique form of transportation.

"It's the best shape I've been in in a long time. It's different, it's outsidethe box, and you move your entire body and it's just incredible," said Adams.

You get the Trikke going by moving your body side to side. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, gliding is a blast.

Adams says, "I try to go at least 10 miles everyday".

Trikke retailer Andy Pliska says the ride gives you a full body experience and workout.

"It attacks your entire bust. You're hitting your core, your quads, your upper body, your pecs,"said Pliska.

I got a crash course in riding from Pliska, and

He explains, "So what we're going to do is a series of right and left turns, two o'clock, ten o'clock. Letting turns glide through each one a little bit more".

After being on the Trikke for a couple of minutes I could already feel the burn. I think the potential for a good workout is definitely here.

Andy gave me a score of 80th percentile which he said is quite good for a beginner. Just like learning to ride a bike, with this thing, practice makes perfect.

Pliska says, "repetition, muscle memory, as your body learns how to make these movements, the it becomes intuitive".

Trikkes start at around 300 dollars and they're now making electric versions too.
