One of two suspects in custody for stealing from disabled woman

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha police have taken a suspect into custody they say stole over $2,000 from a woman with cerebral palsy. FOX6 News recently ran Lori Crewz story and now, she couldn't be happier to hear that police have Crewz' former caretaker, 32-year-old Christina Span, in custody.

Crewz required nearly around-the-clock assistance due to her cerebral palsy, and Span served as Crewz' caretaker.

Span isn't the only suspect in the case. Delorean Bryson is also wanted for helping to cash forged checks. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Span got the job through Staffing Partners Healthcare. The company did not want to go on camera, but did release a statement to FOX6 News, saying: "We believe we played a crucial part in bringing charges against the suspect, who was immediately (let go).  Our policy, within the guidance of state and federal laws, is to conduct a background check on each individual.  This individual provided false information on her application which unfortunately masked her true history."

"Taking advantage of people with disabilities is wrong to do," Crewz said.

It took nearly six months to find Span. After FOX6 News aired Crewz' story a couple weeks ago, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department says a key tip came in regarding Span's possible whereabouts.

On May 29th, police in Toledo, Ohio tracked Span down. She is now in custody in Waukesha County.

"Thank you very much to whoever called her in," Crewz said.

Span has been charged with four counts of misappropriating ID information and one count of theft -- all against a disabled person. Her preliminary hearing is set for June 15th.
