Police looking for vehicle that struck woman, service dog

WAUKESHA -- The City of Waukesha Police Department is looking to the public for help locating a vehicle that struck a 54-year-old disabled pedestrian and her service dog on Friday, June 8th just before 10:00 p.m.

The woman suffered a leg injury, and the golden retriever service dog was killed.

“The dog was alive immediately after the crash. Officers did the best they could to render whatever aid they could and my understanding is the dog passed away as officers were preparing to take it to the emergency vet clinic," Waukesha Police Specialist Steve Kraus said.

The woman was in the crosswalk, crossing Broadway near Barstow when she was struck.

"There was no indication that this vehicle tried to stop. You killed this person's dog, who she relies, obviously, so much on," Kraus said.

The vehicle is described as a cream or light colored 1993-1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

The vehicle will have damage to the passenger side front quarter panel.  The vehicle registration plates have the numbers “22” in the plate.

The vehicle was last seen driving east bound on E. Main Street from Barstow St.

Police say they spotted the vehicle shortly after this incident, going through a stoplight illegally.

Police say Friday night was the "Friday Night Live" event in Waukesha and pedestrian traffic was heavier than usual.
