Police investigating triple shooting near 39th and Garfield

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police were on the scene of a triple shooting that occurred around 12:40 Wednesday, June 13th near 39th and Garfield.

Police say three men, ages 17, 18 and 19 were shot, and sustained non life threatening injuries.

Police say their investigation is ongoing, and no one is in custody at this time.

It appears the shooting happened right next to Christian Fellowship Community Church, near the intersection of 39th and Greenfield.

Neighbors in the area told FOX6 News they hear gunfire almost daily, but said what happened Wednesday ranks among the worst of the incidents they've seen.

Across the street from the church, bullet holes covered the side of a home.

The woman who lives in the home told FOX6 News she was sleeping upstairs when the shots were fired. She said she awoke to hear what sounded like fireworks and then heard loud, more pronounced shots.

One witness told FOX6 News said he saw three teenagers in white shirts approached by another group of young men in hooded sweatshirts. The man said the shots started and everyone ran in different directions.

Witnesses told FOX6 News one of the victims was shot in his legs.

"It's bad news for everybody, because anybody could've gotten shot," neighbor Jerry Ellis said.

Those who live in the neighborhood said the area is trying to clean up its image by building new homes.

The scene of Wednesday's shooting is just two blocks from where human remains were found in a sewer two weeks ago.

"I wish somehow they could clean it up - do something about it. More police patrol maybe, I don't know," Ellis said.

The woman who lives in the home covered with bullet holes after Wednesday's shooting said she's already called her landlord and plans on moving.
