Woman bitten by dog in Shorewood apparently lied about incident

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say a 31-year-old woman who originally claimed to have been bitten by a dog in Shorewood has admitted she lied to protect the dog she was walking from being put down.

The Milwaukee Police Department says the incident happened Thursday afternoon, June 14th near Locust and Shepard Avenue in Milwaukee.

Investigators say the dog became startled and bit the woman in the face.  Officials say she is a professional dog walker and knew the dog.

Police say the 31-year-old originally told medical personnel at the hospital that she was bitten by “a black dog with a white chest” in the area of N. Oakland and E. Olive St. in Shorewood.

Officers say Shorewood police uncovered the truth during their investigation and referred the case to the Milwaukee Police Department. MPD says it will refer the matter to the Milwaukee Health Department and will assume the investigation.
