25-year-old man critically injured in crash involving multiple motorcycles

TOWN OF KEWASKUM -- A 25-year-old Campbellsport man was critically injured in a motorcycle vs. multiple vehicle crash on State Highway 28 at Kettle Moraine Drive in the Town of Kewaskum just before noon on Saturday, June 16th.

Officials say their preliminary investigation indicates a 46-year-old Town of Kewaskum woman was traveling westbound on State Highway 28, attempting to make a legal left turn onto Kettle Moraine Drive in her SUV.

Matthew Smolinski was traveling westbound on State Highway 28 on his motorcycle, and rear-ended the SUV as De Ann Mathson was waiting to turn left.

The collision caused Smolinski to be ejected onto the roadway. The motorcycle then slid into the eastbound lane of State Highway 28.

This caused an additional two eastbound motorcycles to crash.  One motorcycle operator took evasive action by driving into the south ditch to avoid the collision.  The second eastbound motorcycle struck the original downed motorcycle and then also entered the south ditch.

Flight for Life was called to the scene for Smolinski, but was not able to fly due to weather conditions.  He was then transported via ground rescue to Froedtert Hospital.

Both eastbound motorcycle operators were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Town of Polk with non-life threatening injuries.  They have been identified as 43-year-old Valerie Parsons and 50-year-old Troy Hodorff.

Mathson was not injured.

Officials say this accident remains under investigation.

None of the motorcycle operators were wearing helmets and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
