Pit bull shot, killed after attacking man

MILWAUKEE-- Milwaukee police are investigating a vicious pit bull attack that occurred Saturday evening, June 16th in the 4200 Block of W. Capitol Dr.

According to police, around 5:00 p.m., a couple was out walking their dog when a pit bull jumped from a second story balcony and began to attack the dog. A 55-year-old man came to the defense of his pet and wrestled the pit bull off his dog. During the scuffle, the pit bull then started attacking the man, biting him several times.

Neighbor Terry Bradshaw heard the man's screams and he and over half a dozen others tried to stop the attack. Bradshaw said the attack lasted about three to four minutes, and the only thing separating the dog's jaw from the victim was the impact of a car hitting the dog.

Police later found the dog, and the dog was shot two times with a shotgun, subsequently killing it.

The man was taken to the hospital after he suffered dog bite puncture wounds to his face, arms, legs and torso. He will eventually undergo surgery. His condition is not known at this time, but a neighbor familiar with the family told FOX6 News he expects him to be okay.

"I hate for somebody's dog to get killed like that because most of the time it's not the dog's fault, because they don't really know. They'll attack because they feel like they're protecting their home," one neighbor said.
