We Energies busy with power outages due to wind Monday

MILWAUKEE -- Many areas in southeastern Wisconsin managed to avoid rain and storms that struck further north Monday, June 18th, but the Milwaukee area did not avoid high winds and sticky temperatures! In some areas, the wind brought down power lines, causing thousands to lose electricity on a very hot day.

A tree branch gave way to a gust of wind off of 26th Street near Stark on Monday afternoon. Gravity brought the debris to the ground, along with a sparking electrical line.

Another part of the tree came to rest on top of a Milwaukee home.

"Power went out as soon as the tree fell. I'm glad I wasn't over there," one neighbor said.

No one was hurt, but it was just one instance of a rash of power outages We Energies officials tended to on Monday.

At the aquatic center in Lincoln Park, hundreds, including Napoleon Holling and his family tried to temper the temperatures.

"It felt like it was 100 degrees when we got here. It's better than staying in the house air conditioning all day," Holling said.
