Renovations and summer weather draws crowds to Bradford Beach

MILWAUKEE -- Bradford Beach is a popular hot spot that is growing in popularity this summer, due in part to some recent renovations. It's a project 12 years in the making!

Thousands packed Bradford Beach this week, as the Milwaukee area saw temperatures in the 90s and high humidity levels. Many were celebrating the start of summer, and trying to catch a break from the heat!

Bradford Beach is looking different just in time for Summer 2012.

Zach Wade is the general manager of Bradford Beach. Wade says there are several beach volleyball courts available and also, two new tiki bars open for business, with a third on the way.

"29-item menu, extensive drink menu. Everything we're trying to do here is making what's great, greater. We are taking it to a level that everybody wants and does not necessarily expect when you come to the beach," Wade said.

Wade said the renovations were made possible by SURG Restaurant Group. SURG invested close to half-a-million dollars.

"At the same time, a priceless investment, as we see it for such a great space and such a great place to be," Wade said.

There are also cabanas available for rent for beach-goers.

Bradford Beach officials also made some renovations to the bath house and added some additional outdoor seating.

Those who have visited Bradford Beach this summer say the renovations are a positive improvement.

"Kind of reminds you of being in Florida on the beach," one beach-goer said.
