Wauwatosa man admits to shooting in phone call with mother

MILWAUKEE -- Ryan Baltz of Wauwatosa is charged with one count of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. This, for his alleged involvement in a shooting incident near 70th and Fond du Lac Ave. in May.

According to the criminal complaint, Baltz and a friend were at a party when after a fight, they were told to leave.

Baltz and his friend then returned in the early morning -- and allegedly fired shots into the house where the party was being held.

The criminal complaint indicates Baltz and his friend then returned to the home where the party was being held early the next morning, and intentionally fired a gun at the home.

Police got a break in the case when Baltz made a full confession of his involvement on a recorded call from jail to his mother.

"My mom was getting ready for church, the cops knocked on the door early in the morning obviously because he'd probably be home around that time," said Kevin Baltz, Ryan's brother. "He was sleeping, came down, put on some clothes and they took him down."

Baltz "later provided a full confession to the shooting in the presence of his attorney and a Police Officer."

"But people make mistakes and my mom's going to do the best for him.  He's a momma's boy. You know. I know the crime he did was bad, but it's just she's taking it really rough," said Kevin Baltz.

If convicted of the charge, Baltz faces up to twelve-and-a-half years in prison and $25,000 in fines. Baltz appears in court next on Wednesday, June 27th for his preliminary hearing.
