Workers find creative way to beat the heat

MILWAUKEE -- With little relief for many Milwaukee County Parks are extending their hours at aquatic parks until June 28th, but many who work in the heat won't get any help.

With high temperatures and high humidity, the road crews along North Ave. came prepared. Jerry Rideout has been an engineer with Payne and Dolan for 16 years, and he says he's figures out a way to beat the heat with long sleeves. "A lot of people say it's crazy, but you actually stay cool wearing long sleeve shirts, because the more you sweat," he says, "It keeps you cool as you go along during the day."

The people at Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says staying hydrated is a must. OHSA Rep Christine Zortman says, "Employers need to make sure those resources are available for employees. Including water, rest, providing extra breaks potentially."

OHSA doesn't have a standard temperature as far as the heat is concerned, but they say it's up to the employer and employee to use caution.
