DNR sets up burn bans in 11 southern Wis. counties

MADISON (AP) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have imposed emergency burning restrictions in 11 southern Wisconsin counties due to the recent dry weather.

The restrictions took effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 29th.

The ban includes smoking outdoors, all fireworks and outdoor disposal of ashes, charcoal briquettes, matches, or any burning material. Campfires are only allowed at camping areas within a metal fire ring.

Municipalities that have fireworks scheduled already are not affected by the order, but several cities and villages have postponed or cancelled Fourth of July fireworks displays.

Counties where the ban will be imposed include Crawford, Richland, Sauk, Columbia, Marquette, and Green Lake counties, and parts of Iowa, Grant, Dane, Adams, and Juneau counties are included as well.

The ban will stay in place until there is significant rainfall, the DNR said.
