Eight-year-old boy run over by parade float in Racine

RACINE -- An eight-year-old boy was run over by a parade float's front tire in Racine Wednesday just before noon.

The boy was a passenger on a parade float. He apparently jumped off the front portion of the float, fell onto the pavement and was run over by the float's left, front tire. The float ran over the boy's chest.

The boy's father witnessed the accident and pulled the boy away before the rear, left tire could also run him over.

FOX6 News learned the trailer-type float was moving at a very slow speed (approximately idle speed).

The boy was immediately rushed to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time. The boy is expected to recover.
