RACINE — 33-year-old Joshua Smith faces 11 charges in connection with an attack on a woman in Racine on Thursday, July 5th. The charges include false imprisonment, substantial battery, reckless endangerment, mayhem, bail jumping, and disorderly conduct.
The criminal complaint against Smith indicates he had been drinking on Thursday, July 5th and called home to ask his wife to pick him up from a friend’s house. She refused because he had been drinking and “they have had troubles before when he drinks.”
The complaint indicates the wife left the house with their child and returned later hoping Smith had calmed down. But when she got home, she noticed Smith was engaged in a fist fight with his step-father.
After the step-father left, Smith then allegedly took his aggression out on his wife. The complaint says he pulled his wife into the living room “where he began to punch and bite her.” The wife pleaded for Smith to stop — but the beating continued for as long as an hour.
Later, the wife was able to convince Smith to let her go to the bedroom and go to sleep. At that point, she climbed out a bedroom window and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
The wife had multiple bite marks on her face, arms and hands. She also had a split lip, swollen face and was missing a portion of her left ear.
If convicted on these charges, Smith faces up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
