Southeast Wisconsin gets a break from extreme heat

OAK CREEK -- Southeastern Wisconsin saw some relief from the recent heat wave on Saturday, July 7th, with a breeze, temperatures in the 80s and reduced humidity levels. The excessive heat warning issued for much of last week and eventually expanded to include all of southeastern Wisconsin expired on Friday night, and for many, Saturday brought anticipated relief.

With nearly perfect weather, the regular Saturday night car show at Georgie Porgies went on as scheduled in Oak Creek, and some said the cars and burgers never looked so good! Georgie Porgies officials said they were initially worried about a low turnout for this week's show if the heat kept up.

The thought of eating a heavy burger and greasy fries on a hot summer day seemed unbearable days ago. Many opted to pass on burgers and fries, and go for some custard!

"Today's good because it's both food and custard, " Procopios Liapias, one of the owners of Georgie's Porgies in Oak Creek said.

Liapias said burgers and fries regained popularity among customers this weekend.

"Sitting out here on this asphalt in 100 degree weather -- nobody would want to do that. Today is the best day ever after all of that heat! We've had too much heat and too much humidity!" Karen Audi said.

Saturday, as she took in the antique cars, Audi was wearing layers!

"I've got a sweater on because the breeze is cool," Audi said, laughing.
