Search for presumed drowned man drags into day three

WIND LAKE -- The search for a missing and presumed drowned 57-year-old West Allis man in Wind Lake dragged into a third day on Monday, July 9th. The victim's name has yet to be released. The man disappeared after jumping off a boat in the lake.

A half dozen teams have been working from dawn to sunset looking for the man's body.

The movement of the wind is extending the search grid. But the resolve of the search team is strong.

"We have a lot to bring to the situation and we're using what we can. It's tough. It's obviously emotional for everybody, considering the circumstances," Brad Friend with the Racine County Sheriff's Office said.

Crews are focusing in on water about 40 feet deep. At the bottom of the lake, it's complete darkness, so crews are using a remote-operated vehicle (ROV).

When sonar detects something, the ROV takes a closer look. However, even with two ultra bright lights, visibility is still limited to about one foot.

"We are continuing to look for objects. We're expanding our search grid out there a little bit and we're hoping for the best," Friend said.

Crews insist they will not stop their search until they find something -- so the family can have some closure.

"We're going to continue hopefully until we find him. We have a lot of tools, and we have a lot of people who are dedicated to see this through," Friend said.

If the body of the victim is not found by sunset on Monday, the search team expects it to surface on its own in the next two days.
