MPD: Mid-year homicides decreased in 2012 from 2011

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department says homicides decreased in the first six months of 2012 in the city of Milwaukee, compared to the same time period in 2011.

Milwaukee police say the mid-year data shows 36 victims of homicide in the first six months of 2012. Officials say most of the victims were killed by someone who used a firearm. 

The mid-year data shows that 23 of the suspects were ages 17-24. 14 victims fell within that same age range.

Milwaukee police report of the 36 cases 22 have been cleared, which means the suspects have been identified, and/or arrested, and/or charged by the district attorney.

Officials say the Uniform Crime Reporting clearance rate is 83 percent as of June 30, 2012.
