New Berlin girl pulled from Wirth Park pool has died

BROOKFIELD -- The eight-year-old New Berlin girl pulled from Brookfield's Wirth Park pool on July 3rd has died. That's according to the Waukesha County Medical Examiner's Office.

FOX6's news partners at Brookfield Patch broke this story -- and say the girl's identity was not released. She died at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

The girl had been swimming with a camp group from New Berlin when she was spotted by lifeguards not moving in the pool. The girl was rescued by lifeguards, who began to perform CPR before rushing her to the hospital.

The Wirth Park pool had been a popular place to be on July 3rd as people looked to the water to escape from the extreme heat.

The Wirth Park pool was shut down for the remainder of the day following the incident. The pool reopened on Wednesday, July 4th for scheduled for holiday hours.
