Racine teen faces multiple burglary charges

RACINE -- 16-year-old Devontae Cobbins faces multiple burglary charges and obstruction of an officer charges for a series of crimes that took place in April 2012.

In the first of three criminal complaints against Cobbins, he faces charges of burglary and obstructing an officer. The complaint indicates Cobbins was one of three teens who were wandering around neighborhoods in the Village of Mount Pleasant on April 30, 2012. They were allegedly knocking on the doors of homes. If someone answered, they would ask for directions to 3 Mile Rd. If nobody answered the door, the complaint says Cobbins broke in and stole everything from laptop computers to liquor to DVDs. Cobbins faces up to 12-and-a-half years in prison if convicted on these charges.

A second criminal complaint against Cobbins also charges him with burglary and obstructing an officer. The complaint indicates Cobbins and a second person broke into a home in Caledonia on April 23, 2012. The owners were inside the home at the time. They locked themselves in a bedroom and immediately called 911 for help. Cobbins and the second person are alleged to have rifled through the house stealing a wallet. The crime lead to a pursuit by police -- who eventually caught up to Cobbins. He faces up to 12-and-a-half years in prison for these charges.

And a third criminal complaint against Cobbins charges him with four separate counts of attempted burglary. The complaint indicates Cobbins with a second person attempted to break into homes. In each of these cases, one person would ring the home's doorbell while the other broke in to steal items from inside. If convicted of these charges, Cobbins faces up to six years and three months in prison.
