Another night of gun violence in Milwaukee Tuesday night

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating four overnight shooting incidents that occurred Tuesday, July 17th. Three were injured and one was killed. This violent night came following two homicides in the city of Milwaukee on Monday, July 16th, and two shooting incidents overnight on Saturday, July 14th. Neighbors and city leaders are in shock over this recent stretch of violence.

FOX6 News visited two of the communities affected by gun violence Tuesday night. Neighbors there said it seems the shooting incidents both began with fights over something trivial, and turned violent when someone pulled out a gun.

Tuesday night's first shooting incident occurred near the 3200 block of N. 26th Street. During an argument with a neighbor over kids and dogs, a woman fired a gun at Allie Strichlin. The bullet was lodged in her chest.

"All I kept thinking about it -- it wasn't necessary. The gun was not necessary. For no reason in the world could I see why this lady pulled out a gun to shoot me," Strichlin said.

Tuesday night's fatal shooting occurred outside JJ's Bar near the 1700 block of North Atkinson. A 32-year-old man was shot and killed during an argument outside the tavern.

Edward Dixon said he heard the sound of an automatic weapon Tuesday night. Dixon said when it gets late, he stays inside to escape the violence.

There are three churches in the area where the fatal shooting occurred. One pastor says he wants to join others in the community to combat this violence.

"I will take the lead on that and call the pastors together so we can brainstorm and hopefully do something about the violence in the neighborhood. I think we have to address unemployment. We have to address drug activity. We have to address prostitution," Pastor Darryl Williams with St. Mark AME Church said.

Pastor Williams and neighbors say a vacant apartment building in the neighborhood has become a haven for criminals.

Strichlin's mother told FOX6 News she knows Tuesday's violence could have been worse.

"There were little kids, 11, 12 out here. When I seen the gun, I was hollering to get the kids out of the way," Georgia Thompson said.

Also on Tuesday, a 23-year-old man was shot near 24th and W. North Avenue, and an hour later, a 33-year-old man was shot near 39th and Hampton.

Police expect both men to survive their injuries.

Police say their investigations into Tuesday night's violence are ongoing, and no suspects are in custody.
