Groundbreaking on new Cabela's store, blocks from Lambeau Field

GREEN BAY -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday, July 18th for what will become a new Cabela's store -- just blocks from Lambeau Field!

Cabela's Vice President Ralph Castner said the store will fit right in, in northeast Wisconsin.

"We think it will draw from all over northern Wisconsin and even into Michigan, and Minnesota and bring a lot of people to the area. Obviously the Packers, with that great brand that they have, it will be a huge draw," Castner said.

The Green Bay Packers organization owns the land, and will lease it to Cabela's.

"Having a great, great partner like Cabela's, we think is going to be a great jump start for us and really spur further development," Packers CEO Mark Murphy said.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says the site will enhance the area along Lombardi Ave.

"It's going to be one more reason to stay a bit longer, to do a little bit more shopping and to draw more families and more opportunities to the region," Gov. Walker said.

The development will cover about 21 acres of land. The store itself will be approximately 80,000 square feet, and will employe up to 200 people.

"Well over $15 million on this project, most of which will be spent here local, employ local construction workers. We're excited about what it brings to the community," Castner said.

For customers, the new store means people will no longer have to drive to Prairie du Chien or the Milwaukee area to visit Cabela's.

The next step in the process is for Cabela's to finalize the permitting process and then hire construction workers.

Cabela's officials expect to cut the ribbon on the store in about a year.
