Pete Rose to star in TLC reality show

(CNN) -- Infamous baseball great Pete Rose is getting into the reality show game courtesy of TLC.

Rose and his fiancée Kiana Kim will star in a series tentatively titled "Pete Rose and the Kiana Kim Family Project," which is already in production.

TLC says in a statement that the show will follow Rose and Kim as they prepare to say "I do" - a journey that "won't be without its challenges," the network says.

It seems some of Rose's relatives don't have a lot of faith in the couple's relationship, and Rose and Kim are also living in separate cities - Rose lives and works in Las Vegas, while Kim is in Los Angeles.

"She's got younger kids and I've got kids, and we go through the same things everybody else does: taking the braces off, making sure they get their education and they go to basketball practice or acting class," Rose told Entertainment Weekly. "It's not going to be classless -- like it seems like a lot of reality shows aren't really reality, but our reality show is going to be funny, entertaining, and real."

And then there's the matter of Rose's tumultuous career - apparently neither Kim nor her family is filled in on all of those details, TLC says in its announcement, and the show will document Rose recounting his climb to fame and eventual banning from baseball.

"Pete is one of sport's most controversial characters, and his life is even more fascinating off the field as it was on," the General Manager of TLC, Amy Winter, said in a statement. "This series will open the door into a very modern family dynamic of trying to blend families when your kids are no longer children, and when your private life is in the public spotlight."

The network has ordered five episodes to air later this year.
