Some stores running low on items that help beat the extreme heat

MEQUON -- Southeastern Wisconsin got a bit of a break from the extreme heat Tuesday, July 24th, after a heat advisory was in effect for most of Monday, but the heat returns on Wednesday, with forecasted temperatures nearing 100°. A heat advisory has been issued for Wednesday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. With a handful of extreme heat stretches just this month, some consumers say they're having difficulty finding some of the things they need.

Jeff Sterling, owner of Sterling True Value Hardware says air conditioners have been "flying off the shelves" this summer. He says he's struggled to keep crucial items needed to beat blistering temperatures stocked on his shelves.

"The warehouses have been out of a lot of stuff with the demand for keeping lawns watered and people cool," Sterling said.

Another item that is difficult to find of late -- kiddie pools!

"We had kiddie pools in, but a lot of them are selling right away. A lot of people do use them for their kids and a lot for their dogs," Sterling said.

With this scorching summer, supply cannot keep up with demand, and even trying to get relief from the heat the old-fashioned way has been difficult.

"We're selling lots of sprinklers and lots of hoses. Some sprinkler have been out of the warehouse for more than a month, so it's unbelievable," Mequon Ace Hardware owner Kristin Nell said.

Nell says several extreme heat waves, coupled with the drought have depleted the store's summer stock.

"Shop around, keep calling, keep coming back. We can take a list and maybe order products," Nell said.

Both stores say they will make orders for items that they are totally out of for the season.
