Police arrest man in connection with bank robberies

MILWAUKEE --  Milwaukee police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a Tri-City Bank robbery in Wauwatosa. Police believe the suspect is the same person who robbed five different banks between late May and late June.

Michael Leviston is charged with one count of robbery of a financial institution. Detectives arrested Leviston on July 13th during the Wauwatosa robbery.

According to the criminal complaint, Leviston entered the Tri-City Bank on Bluemound Road in Wauwatosa on July 13th wearing a dress and a wig and approached the counter. Officials say he handed the teller a note. When the teller had difficulty reading the note Leviston reportedly said "I have a gun,  give me the money." After receiving the money, Leviston walked out of the bank.

Officers say they were dispatched to the Tri-City Bank around 11:12 a.m. July 13th for a hold-up alarm. While en-route, officers spotted a man dressed as a woman, running west on Mt. Vernon. Officials caught and arrested the suspect.

Police say while handcuffing Leviston they recovered a crumpled up piece of paper that read "BANK ROBBERY." The officers also recovered a black bag with $6,615 in cash.

Police believe the suspect also robbed the following banks for money to support a drug habit:

    If convicted, Leviston faces up to $100,000 in fines or up to 40 years in prison.
