Storms cause widespread damage, power outages

MILWAUKEE -- Thunderstorms brought some much needed rain to parts of Wisconsin Wednesday night, July 25th, but also knocked out power to thousands of residents and caused widespread damage.

As of 10:45 a.m. Thursday, We Energies said about 4,200 customers were without power across southeastern Wisconsin due to thunderstorms. The biggest outages were in the Village of Summit (600 people), Town of Delafield (400) and the City of Pewaukee (400). The rest were scattered outages.

We Energies said its crews would work into Thursday afternoon to repair and restore power to its customers.

Lightning and strong winds blew limbs and trees across roadways and caused wires to spark and transformers to arc.

Waukesha County was hit the hardest by the storms that passed through southern Wisconsin.  The Waukesha County Dispatch Center said they had numerous calls for lightning strikes, downed trees, downed limbs, wires sparking and transformers arcing.

Officials say around 2:30 a.m., strong winds uprooted a tree, causing it to fall on the roof of a home near Newhall and Grand.

There were also reports of limbs and  trees blown down in Fond du Lac, Palymra, Ozaukee, Jefferson, Walworth and Dodge, Counties.

In Oconomowoc, the strong winds slammed a trampoline into the front door of a home, breaking a window.

Officials say no injuries have been reported, and crews continue to clean up debris from the thunderstorms.
