Wal-Mart sued over checkout counters

(CNN) -- Wal-Mart is at the center of a lawsuit.

The Center for Independent Living says the retail giant's payment machines at checkout lanes aren't accessible for people in wheelchairs or scooters.

It filed suit in California on Wednesday

The advocate group claims Wal-Mart has ignored customer complaints for seven years.

In the group's news release, one woman says she has to share her PIN with the cashier if she wants to use her debit card because she can't reach the pinpad from her chair.

In a statement, Wal-Mart says it is committed to serving customers with disabilities and its goal is to have every point of sale machine accessible within ADA guidelines.
