Festival-goers enjoy cooler temps, pleasant weather for German Fest
MILWAUKEE -- We've seen a handful of extreme heat waves this summer, but German Fest got lucky this weekend. On the Summerfest grounds along Milwaukee's lakefront this weekend, it was all about sunshine, cooler temperatures and large crowds.
Other festivals this summer, including Summerfest, have seen oppressive heat, with temperatures in the triple digits at times!
"This weekend has been much nicer, a lot cooler and much more bearable," Jilliam Imoehl said.
Vendors say the nice weather this weekend helped with sales, as more people were in the mood to eat and drink.
"People enjoy eating all of the nice food, which is prepared on the grounds, and our beverages are being consumed too," German Fest director Klaus Fromme said.
Vendors say the cooler temperatures made working in a hot kitchen much easier.
"We put the pigs on, chickens on and we interact with the crowd. We just have a good time down here," vendor John Sliga said.
Over 75,000 people are estimated to have passed through the gates at German Fest -- getting a taste of strudel, beer and music.
Organizers say sales are on pace with last year's festival, even though temperatures were well into the 90s for German Fest 2011.
