FOND DU LAC (AP) — Fond du Lac police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in recent vandalism to a memorial dedicated to emergency services workers.

Acting on a tip, police identified a possible suspect and interviewed him. Police say the suspect acknowledged his involvement in causing the damage.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to property. He was booked into jail, and later posted bond and was released.

Police say the granite memorial was knocked off its base and the firefighters’ tablet damaged. The monument weighs over 500 pounds and had to be shipped to Milwaukee for repairs.
