161st Wisconsin State Fair wraps up 11-day run Sunday

WEST ALLIS -- The 161st Wisconsin State Fair wraps up Sunday, August 12th following its 11-day run.

Members of the military, along with three family members, could receive free admission to the fair Sunday, as part of Miller High Life's "Veterans and Military Reconition Day." Military members needed to show proof of military affiliation to receive free admission. A parade recognizing military members was held Sunday afternoon.

Crowds descended upon Wisconsin's State Fair Park to take in the final day of the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair Sunday.

"We had a hamburger, hot dog and some fries. It was really good!" Dan Legge said.

The food is always popular on the State Fair grounds, but this year, many were eager to take in Spin City. The Midway was transformed into Spin City this year -- and new rides were brought in from out of state, including the "Stratosphere" -- a swing ride that lifted riders 200 feet off the ground!

Fair officials say they believe this year's 11-day run of the fair was a success.

"We shoot for around 850,000 people. Anything over 850,000 is a really good number for us, and I'm pretty confident that we're going to beat that this year," Kristi Chuckel with the State Fair said.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was on hand Sunday honoring veterans and members of the military during a special program.

"Focusing on what we're doing this year to try and make sure veterans -- particularly those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have the opportunity to work," Gov. Walker said.
